Noroccidental in Ecuador's naval history: transportation and installation of mega components for the first multipurpose vessel built by ASTINAVE EP

Movilización y montaje de mega componentes del primer buque multipropósito con grúas gantry
Heavy transport engineering serving the national maritime industry
Noroccidental – TNO was part of a historic milestone for Ecuador's naval industry: the transportation of large structural components for the first multipurpose vessel built in Ecuador by ASTINAVE EP for the Ecuadorian Navy.
This project, executed at the Guayaquil shipyard, represents a significant step toward strengthening national maritime and technological capacity, and reaffirms TNO's leadership in specialized transport solutions for industrial and defense projects.
A precision transport operation
The largest multipurpose vessel sections ever built in Ecuador were transported using Goldhofer PST modular transporters in a side-by-side configuration, comprising 24 axle lines, a total of 96 wheels, and an overall transport capacity of 960 metric tons.
This type of configuration allows for uniform weight distribution, ensuring the stability and safety of the structures during their movement within the shipyard.
Self-propelled transport technology
Goldhofer PST units are self-propelled and independent modular transporters, remotely controlled via radio control panels, allowing the operator to precisely manage every movement of the structure.
The system is powered by two hydraulic Power Pack Units (PPUs) supplying energy to 24 independent drive axle lines, delivering a combined output of 360 kW (490 HP) per unit, providing the necessary power to move large-volume components with complete stability.
Millimetric movements and hydraulic self-loading
Thanks to its synchronized hydraulic suspension, Goldhofer PST modules enable self-loading and unloading operations without auxiliary cranes, lifting and leveling the platform with precision.
Additionally, its 180° steering system per axle line allows forward, reverse, and lateral movements (crab mode), facilitating the positioning of components within the confined spaces of the shipyard.
Transport engineering for a national milestone
This operation set a new benchmark for technical capacity and heavy transport engineering in Ecuador.
The commitment and experience of the Noroccidental team were essential to ensuring that each section of the vessel was mobilized and installed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with the highest international quality standards.
